    5C collet chuck and collets

Correct, you need left hand thread 5C collets. Yes a limiting factor, but there were still available for sale last time I checked. I have been using this set for about 10 years and it served me well. But I just made myself a drawbar and collet adapter and if I sell this setup, I will be...

    3D Printing Tips and Tricks

For THINKERCAD users The " Thinkercad Sketch tool to a higher resolution" video was very helpful. I learn how to prevent some of my design mistakes. It's a very long video, 51 minutes. Just after 8 minutes I had to pause the video and try to absorb all was said. Now, I need to stop mouse...

    Tailstock DRO

Modifying an existing IP67 digital caliper might be a cheaper solution, the dedicated linear scale configuration are pricier. I mounted a cheap $20 digital vernier on my tailstock and so far so good (8yrs). It does get coolant on it but very little and a quick wipe seemed to have saved it from...

    Identifying an odd thread.

For the really tough to identify, I will get my magnifier out and some good lighting. I measure the O.D = metric or imperial or ? I will measure over the length 1" or more and count how many threads there is and average it to a single pitch. Then figure out if it is metric or imperial or ...

    L0 spindle cover

Bummer it didn't work. I tried to slightly alter the o.d dimension of the thread so that it would fit without doing some filling. The printed o.d was good but it changed to more threads per inch. Once the thread is generated in the program I guess it can't be easily altered? something is gone...

    L0 spindle cover

:) I wouldn't if this was a critical part, because I am sure there is some dimensions which are off, but it fits nicely once the nut is tighten and this is just a protective cover. I started a new design because yesterdays print was done in two part. I started printing the taper until it reached...

    L0 spindle cover

It worked, the cover fits! It sure beats buying a big chuck of aluminum $$ and the spend a few hours carving it, for just a protective cover and to hold the nut in place.

    L0 spindle cover

I made a metal drawbar and collet adaptor for some 5C collets for my Colchester lathe and now I need to 3D print a spindle cover. The cover will protect the L0 taper and secure the large spindle nut from flopping around when using the lathe. Printing and Cad work is all new to me but I am...
