    Tips/Techniques Suppliers and sources

In other forums, I've sometimes seen sticky posts for suppliers, and the top post contains the big list. Discussion happens below, but the first post is edited to be kept up to date with the results from the discussion below.

    Hello from Pangnirtung, Nunavut.

Beautiful pictures! I really need to visit the north one day. And welcome from the Kootenays.

wire wheel vs rust converter or media blasting

I've had pretty poor luck with the paint-on rust converters (Rust Check brand from Canadian Tire), same experience as YotaBota - rust bleeding through shortly after painting. But I've had great success with the soaking rust remover (evaporust - currently gallon buckets on sale at PA for $80)...

    CADless CNC Plasma

Interesting, that machine just showed up in a youtube channel which is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine (because it's very much an empty calories kind of channel. More entertainment than knowledge sharing). The arc droid stuff starts around the 10:30 minute mark, and then they have the...

This Old Tony - Will it Black an Entire Aluminum Part?

I recently bought some supplies to try anodizing at home (mostly a power supply). Youtube videos lead me to believe it's super easy, ha. I'll have to let the board know how it goes. This video from Mark Presling goes into nice detail But this is the one that made me think that it can't be too...

    4 way tool holder

If it were me, I'd go 4 holes per side(ie: 12 holes total). That way, if you've got 4 tools on it there's 3 screws holding each tool. Think about the length of tool/HSS blank you'll be holding, with stick out, and try to maximize the number of screws holding the tool in the tool holder.

    Milling machine working height?

I do vaguely recall making a height-related comment somewhere, but it was surely meant sarcastically (which admittedly is sometimes hard to get across online) -- I am the opposite of tall, wikipedia puts me a couple inches shy of average canadian male height. I can *just* wrench the top of my...

    Tool Hex Collet Holder

That's fascinating. I have an ER collet block, and it would never have occurred to me that the corners might not be accurate as a height reference. I think I've used it once to cut a hex head and over the very short length of the flats I obviously didn't notice anything odd, but i'll definitely...

Milling machine chip tray: install or not?

In my um, experience... One of the advantages of a chip tray that I hope you never have to take advantage of is that, say for example you need to move your mill, and despite your best efforts to properly secure your mill, it ends up falling over in transport, you might just get lucky and the...

Want to borrow T-nuts that would fit a Bridgeport Table

Cabela's sells Birchwood Casey Super Blue for $15. I bought some recently, but haven't had a chance to try it out. https://www.cabelas.ca/product/370/birchwood-casey-super-blue As @YYCHM mentions - you could instead use a propane torch to heat them up and then rub oil on them for a dark...
