    AliExpress

Hundreds of purchases, thousands of dollars, only scammed once and received a very prompt refund. A few defective items, under $10 they don't want it back, just refund. Return labels issued for more expensive items, refunds issued a soon as package shipped. Very happy with my DRO, lots of lathe...

    Locked Cabinets At Canadian Tire

I was in Walmart and needed several items. The shaving cream was in a locked cabinet (!) with the razor blades. It took over 10 minutes to get a young sales girl to open the cabinet. When I told her I needed to get some other items, she offered to take the shaving cream to a register. I said no...

    Cutting oil of choice

I use regular old Rigid sulfurized cutting oil for general use, Tap magic and, for the really tough stuff, Moly-Dee. Apply with an acid brush or from the tip of the squeeze bottle. I recently purchased Trim Sol 690XT for mist cooling but haven't needed it yet.

just a gripe about can openers

Don't know about Amazon, but on eBay the sellers do that when they're out of stock. Then just lower the price when they get more. Easier than relisting the item.

    Tips/Techniques welding tabletop overhang

I also inherited mine from a friend who was downsizing. It has a 1/2" top with 4" overhang. The overhang is much more than needed for clamping, but the top is thick enough that it doesn't cause any problems. The table was made from a machine base that was modified during manufacture. The top is...

    Collets

I'm a 5c guy myself. I use them more than my 3j and 4j combined. I have the lever action drawbar which makes inserting and removing parts very fast, even with the spindle turning. Being able to insert a long piece of stock thru the spindle is a big advantage. Like others have said, there are...

    Help choosing material

Unless things are different north of the 49th, McMaster will ship to anyone. They will even ship open account.

Tools you waited too long to acquire

I only use one pitch (10/14) and one blade for all materials on my 4x6. When cutting wide material I reduce the downfeed pressure (hydraulic upgrade) to avoid overloading the gullets and tearing out teeth. I've been getting excellent life from the iMachinist blades off Amazon. I do believe that...

    Best type of face mill?

I bought inserted left-hand turning tools for my flycutters. One of them uses the "free" corner of the CCMT inserts that I use on my lathe, so I have a continuous supply.
