After the cost of the mill the rest of the conversion is almost the same. Maybe jump up to an X3 size mill. ;)

Could you just use a M2 screw and make a collar for it? If you are worried about the collar moving you could MetalSet the collar in place (or possibly loctite). I might even have some 2.5mm stainless tubing in my collection and you are welcome to it. Cheers, P.

    DRO descends into madness

If there are no parts (on that tab) that can not be submerged and you have a large enough ultrasonic cleaner, you might be able to try placing that tab into an ultrasonic cleaner for a shakedown. I have also found a heat gun can get pretty hot and you can localize the heat to a fine point.

The half center could be used when facing center held work. (This is common in watchmaking.) Here is a link to a watch making site where they make a "half center". https://watchmaking.weebly.com/tailstock-centers.html

How did they make this back in the day? Wooden radio knob.

Tried 3D printing the first model.......you can see the shape was a little off. The underside was a little rough. Printing on air isn't the best. Did not want to add supports. No one will see the bottom of the knob, but I have an idea. Splitting this into two pieces. Right where the...

Sorry Craig. I replied to the wrong thread. I'm sure you came up with the correct process. Thank you.

I think you nailed it. This makes a lot more sense to me. The base circumference of the carved splines seems to be a little bit lower than the area outboard of this circumference. Learning something everyday. This is as far as I got last night..... No splines yet. 3D printed to...
