  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Understanding machinist layout with DRO better

That's really cool that you can use the DRO to mark out your layout like that. If each pair of centres measure 11 mm apart then it looks like you nailed it; nice!

Understanding machinist layout with DRO better

In your sketch, it looks like you're trying to calculate the radius of the cam hole centres You have 2 options to calculate the length of that leg of the triangle. 1) use Pythagorean Theorem, i.e. a2 + b2 = c2 where a and b are the lengths of the legs of a right-angle triangle and c is the...

Understanding machinist layout with DRO better

I'll take a stab at this, and am very ready to learn I did it wrong... Starting at your bottom stud, you located it at (0, -41.3). The adjacent cam is 11.0 mm away @ 15° 36' or (15 + 36/60 = 15.6)° The y offset is sin(15.6°) * 11 mm= 2.96 mm The x offset is cos(15.6°) * 11 mm = 10.59 mm So that...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

Jim, I think you're on to a useful approach. Every regulator will have a maximum supply pressure; your unit's internal regulator may be rated for more/less supply pressure than the Everlast unit. Along with the previous advice to use large diameter hose and fittings and short hose lengths...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

What are your thoughts about repurposing a 100 lb. propane tank as a compressed air storage tank? Google claims, "At 100°F, a 100 lb propane tank has 172 PSIG of pressure." I would install it upside down on a stand to make it easy to install a water drain and would regulate the supply pressure...

    KBC 830 Mill Tach Install

Empirical testing has confirmed that hot glue will not hold a magnet to a treadmill motor flywheel. I wonder what 25'th century archeologists will think when they find the magnet in the ruins of my shop? https://www.usedvictoria.com/shop-tools/39126563 I contemplated buying that unit for the...
