  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Found this little gem - Schuchardt & Schuette Gear Hobbing Machine

Who doesn't want a gear hobbing machine? :) I've got a set of Jacobs castings somewhere and have always been interested in the various examples of electronically coupling the cutter and blank. Truth is though, I've rarely needed gears ..... although with the capability I might see the...

    Anyone using ChatGTP?

I don't disagree with you, just think we were already screwed and that AI (A1 as the head of US education calls it lol) has its good points. Jimmy Kimmel went around handing out bottles of A1 telling kids it was to help them in school lol...

    Anyone using ChatGTP?

You don't think we're there already, before AI? For example, what percentage learn machining now on you tube vs buying a book? Zero QA on you tube. With a book, the author wouldn't be considered by the publisher if he didn't have credentials and then everything is studied and vetted before...

How to Clean a Granite Surface Plate?

sorry, was still editing and the window closed ..... you can delete the previous post. You'd get better posts from me and cleaned up posts if I could edit them whenever :( No measurement necessary with Whitworth's original three plate method. It's iterative and comparative and you end up...

    12-11-10-9-8 just for fun

I wasn't mine at the time and I wasn't the driver but that's my S4's time from Cayuga, a daily driver @ 10.216. Nothing too fancy done to it by it apparently dyno'd at 750 hp. Tune, big pulley, ports polished. He eventually blew the engine, put a new one in (tuned way down, around 550) and I...

Tool I beat Tom Lipton to it!

skates and lathes can be dangerous, maybe make a carriage for them to sit on, bolt them to the machine or use three instead of four? I do it like an Egyptian...... prybar and rollers. What is the thing to have for moving is a toe jack....mine copied from Madman Mike who shows up here...

Anyone know there way around O/A torch brands?

It's lasted 45 years but I don't think it was ever a great one, that's 45 years in my garage with low duty cycle. I'm going to ask our Messer Rep tomorrow if knows the story behind that version of uniweld (with a shark and stick on name badge) and if its worth doing anything with.

    Anyone using ChatGTP?

I'm going to have a hard time getting anything done tomorrow at work. I asked for machinists dirty limmerick.... His Monarch 10EE ran tight, With a bed that would gleam in the light. He’d chase every thread, With precision in bed, And swear she purred louder at night...

    Drilling with the cross slide

without cnc... power feed and more s I see a few advantages (in the context of cross slide drilling like the DSG above), It's as or more rigid as the TS and you are never going to mess up the tail stock taper by spinning a drill, and you can drill using power feed. How much those matter will...
