  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Stuart’s big dumb lathe

On the cleaning note, I've found TSP and hot water to be the absolute best for machine tools. Kerosene works well, but it pricy and smelly, and hard to dispose of after the fact, TSP is cheap, odorless (unless you buy the scented "concentrate", don't do that, buy the bag of powder), and more...

Awesome, that's what I needed to know!

    WD-45 Resto

Thanks for the response! The cracks are heat cracks, similar to what happens on big truck drum brakes. They look a lot worse than they are. Its the uneven wear that I don't like. Great point about machining the lip as well.... I 100% did not think of that! I got a new pressure plate, and 3 new...

    WD-45 Resto

Maybe this is off topic? But there is machining involved! If it's in the wrong spot, my apologies. I'm currently restoring the front half of my old WD45. I've been trucking along just fine, but I could use some assistance with the flywheel. The engine was originally pulled to do a rear main...

    Mower deck repair

I had a Kubota F2100, loved it. That thing would cut a hay field if needed. Now I've got a John Deere 1600 Turbo. Huge, Fast, and a massive headache.... The time I save cutting grass, I spend making hydraulic lines or troubleshooting the "computer". Miss that old Kubota. Nice fix on the deck...

    Colchester Chipmaster

I'd say that its worth what someone is willing to pay, and in my case I wouldn't go a Nickle over 1000$. The kit required to get going will double the price. They are a nice sturdy machine. They can definitely do some fine work. As for the 575v VFD drive, that requires 3 phase 550-600v in...

    Ontario meetup, April 6

What an absolutely fantastic time. Thank you so much to those who set this up! The amount of effort that goes into a meet up, let alone one this good, is enormous. And those welding rods will go to good use!

    Brazing Cast Iron

In my opinion, a good old braze job is the way to go. We don't tig weld old airframes for the same reason I'd be hesitant to tig braze this thin material. Concentrated heat can cause concentrated stress, and that means pop, crack. The wood stove idea isn't a bad one for keeping some heat in it...

    Flamal 29

One of the biggest losers in this whole debacle is general aviation. Most GA aircraft, Think Cessna, Piper and things like that we meant to run on something called 80/87. This was a low octane leaded fuel, remember that most small aviation engines used in production aircraft have their design...
