  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Difficult Picture upload... again

Test. After I opened the image in another tab, I did a screen grab of (most of), saved it & uploaded as attachment here. Can you open up mine OK? If so, you right right click my image & his image, do the properties match up 100% or can this hint where the differences are? Maybe original...

    Tool Coaxial indicator

The Chinese knockoffs (of Blake) are generally not that well made. They take up a lot of vertical real estate due to their body length & spin probe. You have to fiddle with the arm tension a bit so it tracks along the surface but doesn't actually scratch the part, because the springs are bigger...

    Difficult Picture upload... again

using this link as example https://canadianhobbymetalworkers.com/threads/another-problem-filled-project.16082/#post-206522 If I click on any of the images, I get the dreaded black screen & eventually 'image not found' But if I right-click 'open in new window' or 'open link in new tab' it...

    4027 Aluminum

From Gemini AMS4027 is an aluminum alloy, specifically a specification for 6061 aluminum sheet and plate, with a solution and precipitation heat treatment. It's a medium-strength, heat-treatable alloy known for good corrosion resistance, weldability, workability, and performance at elevated...

    Manual use of CNC machine

That's pretty darn cool. Lets say you definitely did not want CNC but wanted your dial setup (more as a retrofit to a manual machine). Could it operate through a black box only or do you always require some kind of controller app running in the background?

Solidworks for Makers @ CAD30.00 per year

I don't do CAM so I can't speak for how valuable 'integrated' is like F360. I always assumed one chooses CAD package for CAD specific reasons & same goes for CAM. Kind of like we also don't have 3DP slicers integrated in to CAD. You pass CAD files into Slicer of choice, it specializes in the 3DP...

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

I always assumed a wedge was intended to force things apart or keep things apart. Basically the business surfaces are firmly in contact with adjacent material. Whereas a gib is more about the wedge shape (and material and surface finish) achieving a precision fit, a defined dimensional SPACE...

    Difficult Picture upload... again

I think the Admins said (if I understood correctly) its not a size issue.

Solidworks for Makers @ CAD30.00 per year

Discussed a bit here. They use a different term for parametric modelling (or maybe its not, or switchable, or...??? that's where I get confused). But it kind of looks like they did the 'maker' version the right way. I'd be real interested to hear from someone fluent in SW who gave it a run & did...

Solidworks for Makers @ CAD30.00 per year

That explains it. Yes the corporate brainchildren really sh*t the bed with 3DE. No way to just extract what is an otherwise decent app from that swamp environment. And this has gone on for years now. I would have bet a coffee that heads would have rolled by now, but maybe 'the' head is too high...
