Tips/Techniques Making the Square Drive hole in a custom socket.

I'm afraid there is more than a little truth to my joking about the braille method. Welding will trigger migraines in me unless unless I use shade # 11 . Then it's pretty hard to see anything. I was doing a fair bit of welding .062 1 1/2" square tubing yesterday and I'm suffering. I'll have to...

Tips/Techniques Making the Square Drive hole in a custom socket.

Millwrights make custom sockets all the time by welding a sockets on the end of a pipes. I've a few really deep sockets by cutting a socket in half lengthwise and welding in a pipe. They really handy on pullers. I made a special socket that way for my little blue band Mercs.

New to me RF 45 ..... In the shop

I'm far, very far, from being an expert. But in my struggles, I did learn my VFD has a 24 volt output. When that is used. it's called source wiring. That was how I wired my switches for my lathe. You can use ordinary machine switches. I'm not sure that would be enough for your tach, though A...

    Miller 180 Autoset

Cheap wire is dirty wire. They make various wipers for ahead of the feed rolls. The liners need to be blown out once in while. My son would use a black spring paper clip and a felt ?? pad for his cheap flux-core.

    Miller 180 Autoset

My son did a couple of jeeps with it, but he had to use flux core . I wouldn't let him use up my gas. I done some with .023 , too. I have a #200 spool gun , it plugs in on the X. They were reasonable when they came out. Anything under 1/8" takes a gentle touch .

    Miller 180 Autoset

The ground cable is what came with it. I installed a better clamp, though. It's not really a machine for sheet metal. They say the later ones in the 250 series will now spray weld. I've never done that or even seen it. At work it was always just stick. I have a Magnum Wave 200 TIG/stick. You can...

    Miller 180 Autoset

There is a hack from MIller that tames it, but that involves wiring in some electronics. I read about it on the Miller forum. I don't do electronics. They designed an"Easy Start". Opps. By the 251 they had the bugs worked out.
