  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    5C collet chuck and collets

Left hand threads? So, a normal 5C collet will not work? May be a limiting factor.

    Bought a standard modern 11" series 2000

Fair warning! You will know you have the disease, when you start buying tools like gantry cranes, hydraulic Pallet dollies, and lusting after a decent forklift, because then you can move the machine tool that you REALLY need, where it needs to be! LOL!

    Bought a standard modern 11" series 2000

Replying to my own post, to add, that the really cheap Chinese HSS bits, are usually a LOT more capable than the guys using them are, which is to say, that if you learn to grind a tool at a price point that does not make you wince when it breaks or goes wrong, you are far more like to carry on...

    Tig torch adapter?

Surprisingly enough, these parts are generally not that expensive in a stocked welding supply place. Last lot of TIG fittings I bought was from (I think) Praxair, in Kamloops, and it really did not seem out of line enough to chase down cheap import stuff.

Question on grinding Tungsten for TIG

Jeebus! Crocs? Like one of my trainees (seriously, I was supposedly HIS trainer, a guy with infinitely MORE experience than I had !) said, you only drop one spark into your ear, welding overhead, before you really understand the value of ear plugs! I don't wanna be that, but I hope you don't...

    Tig torch adapter?

There are pages of TIG adapters out there, so it might pay to go to a decent welding supply place and ask. Take the torch and hose with you if you can. Like as not, they will set you up, probably for cheaper than you expect.

Question on grinding Tungsten for TIG

Testify! Amen! Suggest that you dedicate a bench grinder to the job. One wheel is used to clear off the bunged up goo, and clear it off, the other for the finish grind. But I have got reasonable enough results, using a cordless drill and a crappy used angle grinder disc, that I will opine that...

Anyone going to the Calgary Motorcycle show?

LOL! Last one I was at was in Edmonton. Outstanding memory from the show, was the look on the rented bikini fluff's face when I asked her to at least, step behind the bike, as I wanted a picture of it, not her. The trials riding demo was pretty darn great too! Mad skills! Honestly though, I...

Member buddies and end of life planning....

#5 has more smarts than most of the bosses I worked for in my Military career! (Damn, it makes me feel old, that I know who #5 is! LOL!)

Member buddies and end of life planning....

Sorta like the Redneck's death-bed plea, eh? "Please don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told her I paid!" LOL! Have met spouses of several different minds, some were well aware of values, others that spent the day after the funeral, feeding her Husband's toys into the burn barrel, to be...
