    Ammco 6" Metal shaper

Mark looking at the name plate 1625 RPM expresses a lot of slip from a 4 poll motor. The Lower RPM rating is for 50HZ. North America uses a 60Hz Grid. I know of a wrecking yard out Cayuga way that has a lot of used stuff brought in from demolition, some good finds and even better prices...

    Ammco 6" Metal shaper

I am going to use the 1/3 HP motor that has been supplied with the shaper for now. I wanted this machine for making internal keyways as I am limited with my milling machine. I never thought of checking how true the machine is. My TOS FN20 is very accurate and I normally use it should a part...

Not that I remember. Colours chosen were based on the original machine colours, but see that most of these machines are very old, possibly in a past life? TonyK. Grimsby Ontario Canada

Thanks Mark, good information here. I forgot about a 6 pole motor for 1140 RPM ( 1200 synchronous) Yes those are hard to come by. As for other tooling if I don't make it I will keep my eye out on Ebay and see what comes up. TonyK. Grimsby Ontario Canada.

Continuing on. I removed all of the masking from the painted parts. Then ran a tap through all of the threaded holes on the castings. Afterward used compressed air to blow out all of the tapped holes and castings. I also cleaned all of the bearing surfaces as well. Assembly now starts I am...

I plead total ignorance and was not aware of Alba 10" shapers or Alba at all, I had to google search the make. Impressive. Mashing Metal you bring up some good questions. As for tooling I picked up a zero degree tool holder on ebay fo $25 takes 1/4" HSS stock or insert tools. Sadley shaper...

    Ammco 6" Metal shaper

One of the reasons I jointed this form is because it is mostly Canadian and a lot of locations I know where they are. The quotes for dollar values are CND and I don't have to convert. I am hoping that the restoration is functional, whether or not I find the OEM parts that are missing and at a...

Was it required? I am kind of a low profile kind of guy. Thanks for the kind comments on the project. TonyK. Grimsby Ontario Canada.

Moving along I decided to look at cleaning the Clapper Box as it was dirty and a bit of rust in a few spots. Also this machine is put together with taper pins of many different sizes. When I worked at Nanticoke a lot of the old British machines used taper pins but that was 1975 and I have not...
