Does anyone know of any welding teachers in Burlington or Halton area?

I live in Grimsby. If you are interested contact me and I will show you what I have and try to understand what you want to weld. I have a Mig, Tig/Stick welder and we can go over the basics. I had a pull away TIG, but went to a Fronius Magic Wave 230, truth, I had to learn how to weld...

Looking for milling machine purchase help/advice

I have TOS FN20 and it weighs about 1800 LBS. A very capable machine and I don't regret it one bit. Tools are never really needed until there is one small job and I say, I wish I had... Then one day you get that tool and it opens a whole lot of opportunity and I say, why didn't I do this...

Looking for milling machine purchase help/advice

If I was looking for a milling machine I would consider this Moore Jig Borer. Quality machine, has lots of tooling and if you want to convert to CNC well you have to consider the screws and the accuracy. Bigger is better, heaver is better. Tooling costs a lot of money, but here you go. A...

TOS FN20 Grinding Sound in the Spindle Head

Some searching shows that the P5 Precision class is middle of the range 4x to 5x more expensive than a standard bearing. So much for picking them up today, most likely will need to be ordered. That being said the miter gear and rotating boss has no affect on the spindle as it drives the...

TOS FN20 Grinding Sound in the Spindle Head

I was making a bracket for my neighbour the last few days for his gas powered cut off saw that had broken. I could have tried welding it, but it was a light cast aluminum and didn't feel it would last very long on the machine with all of the vibration. Near the end of the machining I heard a...

Moore and Wright 6" Machinist Level

I picked this up on ebay for $137 CND from an estate sale on the east coast and hoped for the best. The pictures were smaller than these pictures. The pictures sent to me led me to believe that the level had rust pitting. My thoughts were once it landed here at home in Ontario, I could give...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

Hi Tom. Yes the flock is a powdered fiber that is blown on to the part. This is the cheap version flocking gun, if you scan back a few pictures in this post you will see a red can, that is the flocking gun I purchased 30 years ago from Lee Valley...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

Carrying on. When I converted my milling machine to CNC using Mach 3 the problem arises, just how far does an axis really move? Mach3 says it moved an inch, but did it? Mach3 needs to know how many counts from the encoder equals 1". The calculation. 1) Pitch of the lead screw, 2) gearing...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

On to the Z axis. As you can see the Z axis is the longest at 13 3/4". Here is a look at the slide on the bench. Although the travel is 13 3/4" the solid sliding way covers that I made reduce that travel by 2" on each side. The machine came with bellows way covers that were in really bad...
