  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. help making small hinges

We are waiting to hear back tomorrow from a friend who is a manager at Lee valley but I am not holding my breath that they have a pair in stock hidden away. I am really hopeful that they will be restocked soon but sadly I am on a time crunch and can't wait long. The box is a gift for a friend...

    help making small hinges

I need some advice on making some small brass hinges for a recipe card box that I am making. I used to buy them from Lee valley but they aren't available right now from them or the manufacturer. So the wife has tasked me with making them. The problem is this is a little smaller than I am used to...

Do you need the pins to be reusable? If not then I would go for the caveman approach and use side cutters to grab and pry them out. This is a very common mechanic technique for removing pins. Or a good pair of vise grips. And if those don't work if you have a tig welder you could weld on a...

    Tools and Machinery Raffle

For me I think that instead of trying to find a way to pre sell my stuff for when I kick it, I will down size the stuff I don't need or use as I get older. And for the rest just make sure that my wife and son know what things are worth. That way if my son isn't interested in keeping a shop full...

    Carbide insert question

That is one part I never really considered, does the tool holder make that much of a difference? Aside from boring bars where they are sticking out so material can make a big difference in rigidity. In a regular tool holder for outside turning does material and quality make that big of a...

    Mill Accuracy

I have a clone of the RF-45 that I picked up used in really good shape. The manufacture date on it is from 07 if I recall. I expect to be within .0005" and so far have been able to achieve that about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I am within .001". I have no reason yet to believe the...
