  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans.     300/60=5rps, 3ipm... First one is .014 chipload, second like you said is .01. Id gun for a .005 chipload @300rpm -> 1.5ipm feed, but im no machinist. :P To get .014 chipload @300rpm would be 4.2ipm

    Id personally use mild steel plate, 1/2 or 3/8, partly because thats all i got laying around. I dont think its the kind of nut that needs to be torqued to high heaven as it tightens on itself like an angle grinder nut. Should be good enough for another 30 years. The arbor threads are alright...

    Ya that 4 inch i spoke of is on a 50 taper arbor with a 1.25 stub. I saw somewhere a rule of thumb for 50 taper stubs was 1.5 inch -> 5 inch facemill, 1.25 -> 4inch, 1 -> 3inch.     I recently got a 4 inch, 7 flute facemill and a machinist friend told me to run it with just 1 or 2 flutes, that would provide a better finish. Im not sure if this is why he meant that but elsewhere ive heard more flutes will drag in chips and smear the surface... Maybe blast with air the whole...
