    EMCO Maximat 13 Update

Thanks. I think i can figure out the tailstock clamp base but i may need a picture of the inner lower clamp of the tailstock barrel. It has a v shape that is pulled into the barrel. I have the upper clamping piece but not the lower. It is part number 8 in the service manual of the tailstock.

    EMCO Maximat 13 Update

Now that things have cooled off a little, I decided to do some work on the Maximat I picked up at auction a couple weeks ago. I changed the oil in all the gearboxes. Then scrubbed a bunch of the rust off the ways. They are slightly dark from the rust but there doesn't appear to be any...

    Mill scale removal ?

As a chemist, i will say that citric acid is awesome to se for rust and mill scale removal. Rust is removed faster than mill scale but both can be effectively removed with citric acid. I was clean g up the rust on my Emco lathe handles with it and was very pleased with the results. Citric acid...

    New machines

I spent a couple hours last night cleanng off the rust from the ways. It was just surface rust fortunately. The old oil and crap on the machine protected it quite nicely.

    New machines

I inspected the trailer after I got back and discovered that the tail holding the ramps has cracked all the way through on one side and on the top of the other side. It is a poor design in that the drop ramp is just welded on to the back of the trailer frame and will bounce excessively weakening...

    New machines

Dabbler, yes it is a 9x49. I was surprized at the condition too. You can never be to sure of things just looking at pictures. I'm looking forward to getting the Emco running. So far I have just cleaned it up a bit and changed all the oil. I have yet to find a machine where the oil didn't look...

    New machines

It has been a busy week for me. Too much time online leads to Visa indiscretions. I purchased a mill from the school in Dauphin MB. I have never heard of the manufacturer but it is a Bridgeport clone. It appears to have mostly Imperial fasteners too which is a bit surprizing. It was...

    Klopp shaper running

That is the automatic tool lifter. There is a rocking lever on the left hand side of the ram that lifts the clapper on the return stroke. It is hooked up by the yellow cable that pulls up a pin in the clapper box that lifts the clapper.

    Klopp shaper running

After a gallon of Simple Free, I was able to find the shaper underneath the filth. Drained the old black hydraulic fluid out and cleaned the reservoir. Added 45 litres of hydraulic oil the set about doing the wiring. The rotary phase converter is a 15 hp unit because of the high starting loads...
