  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Looking into 3d printing

I have a SOVOL 06 which I like from the simplicity and large bed. But I must admit, even with the occasional jam up and sometimes gloppy printing overall my Bambu X1C with AMS is really nice. But it was very expensive.

Make sure your encoder that you ordered can handle the spindle speed. Edit: Also verify it has an index pulse output. Not all of them have that.

I'll ask on the Linux Forum. I'm curious too.

Some quick math here. If your spindle is turning 3000 RPM that's 50 RPS. So 2400 edges per rev is 120,000 edges per second or one every 8.3333 uSec. The standard BASE PERIOD in LinuxCNC is 24000 nanoseconds or 46,666.66 Hz Or in other words it can only accumulate pulses every 24uS during...

Linux can do power tapping with 60 which in quadrature is 240 edges per rev. A 600 line encoder would result in 2400 edges per rev. Since it's handled in hardware by the MESA that's fine.

    Filtering funnel

You should see the sewer pipe cover I'm printing at the moment. My head hurts...

    Filtering funnel

Boy that is one robust solid funnel. However I think I agree with the prevailing opinion that the center part with the holes should be removable. With a tiny bit of spider webbing from the 3D printing operation I think this would be very difficult to clean.

    Filtering funnel

Yeah. A friend put the cherry pitter i made for the in the dishwasher. Had to print them a new one. I guess the funnel material will depend on what liquid one needs to filter.

3D Printed? So you don't go through the anguish I did I'll let you know up front that you will have to paint them with a metalized paint. The encoder disk in this photo is actually also 3D printed. The trouble is the PLA is transparent to IR from the optical sensors. I found that out the...
