    Bad Allan key

Like my instructor in trade school said… “never modify or use a tool in a way other than it is intended to be used, unless that’s what it takes to get the job done, but you didn’t hear that from me”

    Bad Allan key

I’ve done many times, find a bit that’s just a little bigger than the hex socket was before it got stripped and pound it in with a hammer. Success rate isn’t 100% but I’ve had better luck doing that than using screw extractors. Use an Allen socket or torx socket or if you don’t have one in the...

    HQ500 4-Jaw chuck?

If the manual says MT4 in the spindle then the bore is gonna be around 28mm. MT4 is 31.3mm on the big end. Not that uncommon on a machine that size. I doubt this machine has a threaded spindle, more likely it has a plain flange mount like a lot of other Asian made hobby type machines.

    HQ500 4-Jaw chuck?

ideally take whatever chuck is on there off and take a picture of where the chuck mounts. Alternatively just take a picture up close of the side of the chuck where it mounts.

    Excello (XLO) 602 Oil Leak

Interesting, I haven’t seen a broken one before but I haven’t done that much shopping. On the excello there’s no automatic disengage, just a friction clutch.

    Excello (XLO) 602 Oil Leak

There’s pros and cons to each style. The guts of the head are more easily accessed on a BP style head. On an Excello you can’t get the mechanisms that handle power quill feed without removing the head from the ram. I also like the way a BP type head auto disengages the power quill feed. The...

    Excello (XLO) 602 Oil Leak

The excello is a completely different design. Nothing like a Bridgeport apart from some similarities in layout. The excello back gear assembly, above the spindle is in an oil bath. I can’t recall how much it holds but probably a quart or so. There’s an oil seal that keeps it from going down the...

    Excello (XLO) 602 Oil Leak

On my mill there was no gasket, both surfaces you noted on the drawing had a silicone sealant. I did not clean it off and put fresh sealant on when I had it apart and it did leak a little bit but not enough to prompt me to go back in there to fix it.

    New scales with old DRO?

Here are images of the scale label and the connectors.

    New scales with old DRO?

Yeah that’s kind of what I was thinking. If it doesn’t work I’ll just go buy another touchDRO unit and share the tablet with my lathe. The label on the scales seems to indicate the pin out. I’ll take a picture of that tomorrow. The connectors are weird though so I’d have to get a couple of...
