    Hendey T&G Lathe

I got frustrated early on and just took it slow after that. It took a while to get a feel for how the surfaces relate to each other geometrically. I’ve been cleaning up the last of the parts as well. The apron and the blocks that support the leadscrew/feed shaft.

    Hendey T&G Lathe

Scraping in the saddle ways has been a long process. I think I’ve been at it for at least 3 weeks. I’m any case I think I’m done. It’s probably not the best scraping job out there but all four surfaces have contact along the whole length. Today I popped the granite square up on the ways and...

    Lathe VFD?

Not sure if a VFD changes things but up to a certain hp a plug alone is acceptable by code for motors up to a certain hp. I think the cut off is 1.5hp. Over that a plug is still acceptable but you need a disconnect dedicated for that piece of equipment.

    Lathe VFD?

When I was still planning to use the servo on my lathe I bought a bunch of stuff of stuff like that from mouser/digikey that fit on din rails. I’m keeping it all since I want to use that motor on a future project but the blocks were cheap. The ones I bought were phoenix contact. I’m surprised...

    Lathe VFD?

Yeah resetting a fault is the main reason I put the display/keypad remotely with my other controls on the hendey. It was easily removed but the extension cable was an accessory. I could have cobbled something together myself I guess but I ended up buying an old stock original (the VFD I have...

    Lathe VFD?

How close is your machine to a wall? If it’s close to a wall you could have an enclosure with a door on the wall next to disconnect. Run the wires for low voltage control seperate from the three phase wires from the VFD to the machine. If it’s not near a wall mount the box somewhere on the...

Tips/Techniques DRO Glass vs. Magnetic Scale Accuracy Etc.

I looked at Facebook marketplace briefly for used tablets and then wandered onto Amazon to see the retail price… it’s prime day today so all the tablets are on sale and that saves me going out to pick up a used one. Got a 8” fire tablet, “rugged” case and a monitor wall arm for around $150...

Tips/Techniques DRO Glass vs. Magnetic Scale Accuracy Etc.

Maybe this belongs in a different thread but I have a practical question. I’m going to get a DRO for my Hendey at some point when it’s complete or nearly complete. Scale wise I already have an idea as to what I’m going to do. The Z can be whatever scale I want, tons of room so probably a...

What is this kind of collet called?

Looks like a bushing for a boring bar holder or maybe a lathe turret.

    Mystery Mill

I’d suggest repairing the gear, you’ll want the extra torque that mechanical reduction gives you at low speeds. You can braze or weld depending on the material of the gear and file it into the tooth shape. Regarding identification you could try emailing pictures and any info to the...
