  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Air compressor not restarting

Ok, but what about when it attempts a second cycle? Any signs of motor hum/buzz, hot to touch, before the thermal overload trips?

    Air compressor not restarting

Ok Have you ever been at the air compressor location to see what happens after it successfully starts the first time and before the thermal overload trips?

    Air compressor not restarting

I think you've stated that the thermal overload has tripped even at a lower pressure reading - correct?

    Air compressor not restarting

If that last scenario plays out, motor stalls attempting a second cycle, then @slow-poke will likely be correct about a failing start capacitor. @David Edit - have the capacitors been checked, yet?

    Air compressor not restarting

Hold on, I edited my previous post. Please read. If the thermal overload is tripped it should only happen when current is being drawn by the motor. Therefore, using the meter and watching until the end of the cycle there should be an increase in current to heat up the thermal overload to...

    Air compressor not restarting

I think it will be a 2 man job. One person observing the meter and the other making the compressor cycle on and off. What you should see at the meter before the thermal overload trips is enough "excess" current to heat up the bimetallic strip of the thermal overload before it bends and opens...

    Air compressor not restarting

Yes - different meter setting for AC and DC. Some meters will only measure AC or DC. Some can measure both. Edit - I am referring to the "clamp style" only. Meter on left only measures AC amps. Meter on right can measure both AC and DC. It has 3 different settings for different ranges of...

    Rain in Edmonton

    Some girls: "Is that curable?"
  9. E

    Air compressor not restarting

Exactly @David Hopefully, you can see the current just before the thermal overload opens the circuit.

Or when the world asked the US why they aren't using metric they told a "the dog ate my homework" story.
