  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Scraping teacher Richard King has stated he has used an angle grinder to rough in some large machines. I think he stated this on the ‘Practical Machinist’ machine tool rebuilding forum.

    Dividing head de-crustification

    I use car bumper wax on my machined and ground surfaces on my tools and machines. I think it is Meguires? All the Brown and Sharpe type dividing heads I have used have a Brown and Sharpe taper in the spindle, usually a 9 B&S, little ones have a #7 B&S.

    Canadian made Richeleau are at least as good as Vidmar and Lista. All three’s best grade of cabinets are rated 400 lb’s per drawer. Much better than Snap-off’s best and much more affordable as well.

    A punch to the throat and a kick in the nuts has worked for me, and I am a half cripple. Threats against you from 2 bigger younger men on your doorstep thru your open door is serious. If they do so inside your house and you are afraid of harm to you or your family, it’s 12 gauge time.

    Mill top of anvil flat?

    I use h.s.s. drill bits for hardfacing with my Miller tig welder. You could just tap the flux off of a hardfacing stick rod and use that for tig, depending on the rod size and amperage of your machine.
