  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Powerfeed for Zay7045FG Mill

I wonder if it's cheaper to get a servo or stepper and then make a bracket. A simple pulse generator can then be used to drive the motor. Good used servo on eBay sometimes go as low as $100

    Looking into 3d printing

What version of Anycubic slicer? (BTW looks to be a derivative of Prusa slicer to my untrained eye) When I configure Anycubic slicer, I don't see a selection for Kobra S1, only Kobra3, it seems to work, but video I watched shows selection for S1, it might be because laptop I'm running slicer...

    Looking into 3d printing

David, Kobra S1 arrived and I made some time to power it up. Seems to print well ( just PLA so far). 1) are you able to send files from your PC to the printer via WiFi? 2) What version of slicer are you using?

    12-11-10-9-8 just for fun

Agreed. If you want to go fast racing, the first smart thing to do is start with the lightest chassis you can find. Just look what a motorcycle can do with a 100HP, GSX-750 does the 1/4 mile in 10.5s it's just physics. Carol Shelby obviously chose the aluminum body AC sports car, not only for...

    Drilling with the cross slide

Thanks for all the thoughtful comments. I don't use flood coolant. It's not uncommon that I need to drill quite a number of holes often somewhat deep in aluminum on the mill. Sometimes I will just use the quill, but more and more especially for deeper holes I reuse a few line program that pecks...

    12-11-10-9-8 just for fun

Another rule of thumb, every 100lbs slows the car 0.1s in the 1/4. 1965 AC Cobra with 427 weighs 2350 lbs. Thats 1550lbs or 1.55s if they had the same power. The day they dyno'd my engine they also dyno'd a factory stock dual quad 427 and I watched it make 637HP at Beatty & Woods Back in the...
