  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Machine What is the swing of your lathe?

Active online or active in the shop? :) It would be interesting to see those numbers from different forums, too.

Machine What is the swing of your lathe?

Thanks for those numbers. With the 1/4" mod to make it 'spot on' could you knurl a small diameter piece? The stock DG tool needs about 3.2" from the toolholder to the center, it seems. And that wouldn't allow advancing the knurler on to the work- it would have to come over the end of the...

Machine What is the swing of your lathe?

About the toolpost to center distance: My 7x14 microlux lathe with OXA toolpost and extended cross slide mod is maximum 3.2" from the front of the toolpost to the spindle center. My 10x24 Logan 210 lathe with AXA toolpost is 2.9" 3.5" maximum with the compound turned parallel to the ways and the...

Machine What is the swing of your lathe?

Thanks, now I understand...It's not possible to enter the same size twice, if somebody (like me) owns duplicates...but I guess that isn't the point?

Machine What is the swing of your lathe?

BTW, if this is about sizing your knurler.... The max distance from the toolpost to the spindle center can vary for lathes of the same nominal swing, I think. Quite a few 7x lathes have been modified to extend the cross-slide travel to get the tool 'out' farther.

Machine What is the swing of your lathe?

How do I do that? After voting, I only have 'change vote' as an option. EDIT: OK, understood - thanks, Craig! Not vote three times, but select up to three different lathe sizes.

    Accusize Rocks

So we should just "put up and shut up" if we get poor service or are sold sub-standard tools, sometimes at premium prices? I'm really grateful to people who criticize and comment publicly; it's saved me a lot of wasted money and inconvenience. I'm also grateful to people who give an online...

    Tool holder height screw

Isn't the minimum major diameter for a M10x1.0 around 9.8mm (9.79)? I just measured the post on my Precision Matthews AXA holder and it's under that. But, the new adjuster 'wheels' I made and threaded with a M10x1.0 tap seem to work fine. I agree it's a 'pain' when threads aren't 'on spec', and...

    D. Gray D&D - HEAVY DUTY KNURLING TOOL KIT

Very nice job on the project! Looks like a very sturdy tool. Attention all metals: "Resistance is futile!" :) It's interesting that everything on the Grey knurler is 'supersize' except the tension knob.

    New Project - AXA Multifix

When I looked at the Multifix info from those German sites, I found it strange that the toolholders are "sized" by lathe power (kW/H.P.) and tool size.
