Machine I hate my change gears!

That Craftex arrangement with the clips ...stuff I never seem to find in 'reviews' of machines. The 7x (much derided) lathes use socket head cap screws to fix the gears on the shafts, and it's not very difficult to change ratios. My recently-acquired 1941 Logan has a more troublesome...

    Tool Spotting fake Mitutoyo calipers

I agree- on that micrometer KBC would be about $50 more. For me, that's big surcharge on a $150 item. (Not that I would ever speak badly of a 'fan favourite' hereabouts....got my knuckles rapped for that already.... :) )

    Tool Spotting fake Mitutoyo calipers

Yes- very smooth transaction. Good price, Canadian (not Canadian subsidiary of US firm...) company, good communications and -no surprise- the Mitutoyo works well. It's a bit clunky compared to a mechanical micrometer, but I think that's true for all digital ones with a screen I can read. :) I'd...

    Tool Spotting fake Mitutoyo calipers

:) After assembling a small collection of mechanical micrometers, I decided to 'see what all the fuss is about' and bought a Mitutoyo 0-1" digital micrometer a few months ago. I use it a lot and it really works well. Recommended.... $150 well spent...

    Tool Spotting fake Mitutoyo calipers

Thanks. After I gave it a bit of thought, my enthusiasm waned....measuring a few uA would be a challenge for me. Perhaps the era of 'battery eating' cheap calipers is passing? I've been impressed with the $30 ("DanIu")calipers I've been using for the past few months.

    Tool Spotting fake Mitutoyo calipers

I'm interested. How did you do that measurement? I'm thinking a couple of pieces of brass shim separated by tape, between the battery and the case contact?

    Tool Spotting fake Mitutoyo calipers

I recall that one of the differences with the 'fakes' and cheap calipers generally is that they come with cheaper/different batteries. So that's part of the problem for battery life, aside from the current draw of different calipers when they are 'off' (display off, or actually off, like my...

Wrench for 5C collet block nut

Some of the ads (Chinese and Chinese via Amazon) that I've scanned call the type with the rectangular lug a hook wrench (or spanner) and the type with the round lug/pin a pin wrench/spanner. So it's best to try different search terms. I've bought a couple of different ones recently for spindle...

Or, skip the middleman and buy direct at less than half the price..with a few weeks wait and no returns possible.

    Accusize Rocks

Another option: $184 CA at ITM (Canadian company) with free shipping. https://www.itm.com/product/mitutoyo-500-196-30-calliper-digimatic-encoder-technology-0-6-0-0005-0-150mm-0-01mm? I bought my Mitutoyo micrometer from them.
