  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. Show us your Tool Height Standard

I'm sure my method was much less accurate than yours, but it worked for me. Put a piece of scrap in the chuck and face it with a sharp tool in the QCTP. Adjust the tool height to exactly remove the 'pip' in the center of the work. Lock the tool height in the QCTP holder. Remove that tool in its...

Strange Carbide Insert Internal Threading Tool Geometry

For me, it's the same as in any other situation - use the height gauge to set the tip of the tool at the desired height. Is there any other way?

Strange Carbide Insert Internal Threading Tool Geometry

I have similar internal holders and they have the same angle on the insert as yours. I haven't used them yet, but I have used the external threading insert toolholder with good results. It holds the insert at an angle -'canted' down - in a similar way. I follow the advice that @John Conroy gives...

    Affordable Shim Stock

I was going to recommend the $50 pack of brass shim stock I bought from amazon 6 months ago, even though it seemd very expensive to me. But when I looked yesterday, it's now over $100. so either brass prices are escalating more than ever, or the amazon pricing bot is at work. Fuggetaboutit. :)...

What inserts do you like and why?

It would be interesting to see a head-to-head test between these KBC Korloy inserts and the same (?) "Korloy" inserts from AliExpress, since there's a 10x difference in price between the two. Thinking about the Gotteswinter statement about (modified) carbide inserts: it has been mentioned...

    Repairing BOSCH B20CS30SNS/01 fridge

I have a 2.5 y.o. Bosch fridge - expensive ($4200) and a lovely thing when it works which is does..mostly. A couple of times, it has 'lost its mind' and stopped cooling ... it seemed to recover with a power down a.k.a. 'reboot'. but how can we be confident about a refrigerator like that? Delays...

Tool Surface plate height gauge recommendations

I have one of those iGaging models, and "I beg to differ"......without the 'knob' it's extremely difficult for me to set an accurate height (when using the gauge for layout and marking). The kbc versions seem to also not have an adjusting knob. All calipers have knobs, why omit them on the...

    Elmers Engines

The originals are too small for me, and the deWaals are too big (and expensive for metals). About 150% of the Elmer size is about right for me, as a beginner. And metric fasteners and tooling are a lot more readily available, cheaply - another reason I don't care for the original plans.

    Elmers Engines

Thanks, @Dabbler . I've learned to be greedy and download things as I find them (or helpful people find them for me), in case they disappear from the web.
