  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    For those of us in Calgary and area, my friend who owns Black Cat Metal has said he would be open to allowing us to meet at his shop during one of his open house nights. He generally hosts an open house every other Thursday night from 7pm to 9pm. Any thoughts???

    The drive wheel needs to be crowned. I suspect that your wheels are slightly out of alignment and that is why your tracking is not working properly.

    Chris, @phaxtris has a pretty straight forward grinder and mine is very simple too. Perhaps the three of us could meet at my shop or @phaxtris (if he isn't busy) and get your grinder running.

    From what I can see in the pictures, your drive & tracking wheels do not have enough crown to them. Also, it would appear that there isn't a lot of belt contact with your drive wheel. You should come have a look at my belt grinder set-up.

    Great! Thanks Carl, I look forward to getting my hands on some. It should make good smithing tools. Do you know if it's all 7/8" or if there is some larger diameter stuff? Did you have a look at the ad's I posted? The going rate seems to be $12 ~ $15 per stick.
