  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Most anvils that you find nowadays are going to be cast steel anvils. I would be surprised to find a modern anvil these days with a cast iron body with a high carbon face plate.

    Matt Jenkins of Cloverdale Forge bought two of the Kanca anvils for his classes and he thought that they were a very good anvil for the money. I worked on one of them and found it to be quite serviceable.

    My friend and mentor, Dennis Paish, made the sheath. He said that such a beautiful blade couldn't reside in one of my pedestrian sheaths. Lol Having the 25 lb Litte Giant hammer makes quick work of drawing out steel. It was a real arm saver and I probably wouldn't have attempted the job...

    I really wish I had taken some progress pictures, but alas I was too focused on getting this blade done in time for Christmas. No secrets to the construction. I sanded, cleaned and stacked 1/8" x 4" pieces of 1095 & 15N20 into a billet about 1 1/2" in height. Then the billet was clamped tight...
