  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Navigating Tariffs Together

I remember watching a friend who worked at a hobby shop spends hours putting "Model Reduit" stickers on all the Airfix model airplane kits. In the neighbourhood we lived in, "μοντέλο κλίμακας" would have been much more effective. Or 比例模型 . .

    King 1440 Lathe Speed plate

Kind of depends on how fancy you want to get. Engraved aluminum is relatively easy - once I know the overall size I mock it up in CAD and select font sizes that scale up roughly to the original. New from scratch. My fonts won’t be a perfect match, and my belt diagrams will be line art so might...

    King 1440 Lathe Speed plate

Give me some dimensions and I'd be happy to engrave you the speed chart on an aluminum sheet. Need to keep all these engraving machines working.

At the grocery store today, buying frozen french fries. Fries from USA (boo), Canada, and Belgium. Belgium? We need to import cut up potatoes from Belgium? New Brunswick and PEI potatoes can’t compete with Belgian spuds? Frozen Pacific shrimp from India and Viet Nam? When there are fish packing...

    Vevor 8.3x29.5 lathe

I’m generally satisfied with the stuff I’ve bought from Vevor, but I’d be hesitant on this beast. It weighs 174 lbs with an overall length of 47”. Not much meat there. For comparison, a 4ft chunk of 6.63” o.d. x 0.28” wall steel pipe weighs 75 lbs, and my 10”x18” Busy Bee lathe weighs about 450...

    Atlas 618 electronic lead screw

I have @jcdammeyer 's ELS on my Busy Bee B2227L. My goofy method was to mount the stepper motor on the change gear banjo, just four spacers and a chunk of 1/4" aluminum plate. Timing belt was a silent gear and chain set I had in the ancient parts bin, and the spindle timing gear is another old...
