  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Beginner machinist question??

@DHHok @PeterT - does a back plate look something like this? This was included w/ the CX709

    Craftex CX709 motor issue?

Sweet @DHHok I also have one of those heavily discounted CX709"x"s... I have zero experience w/ electrical motors, etc. (@Tom Kitta's oil change is on my list of things to do). Where would I start to source a replacement motor? I expected the machine to be 220v 1ph before buying and would...

Best gas for mig Welding sheet metal?

@Tecnico there was a 180C demo available in my area (maybe still?) for $700 that I really wanted to splurge on (replacing a 180 retail in my shop) but I'm hoping to step up to a 260 w/in a year... I just spent $500 USD to replace broken parts inside two of my three welders (all have been in...

    Milling Machine DRO

Getting ready to go through the same process - this thread saved me from asking a bunch of questions. Questions... General - magnetic scales > glass scales... correct? Lathe DRO - I have a Craftex CX709"x" - obviously I want a DRO that has x and y axis, likely also want one w/ the hall effect...

Changes to Fusion 360 for personal use

@PeterT - you may not be jaded enough... lol I don't pretend to know everything that is going on (could be meant in way too many ways); there are a few things that I've been exposed to that I've tried to really pay attention to. My experience w/ public tenders supports that key...

3D Printing - machines owned by members

I have two right now; both are Crealitys - and Ender3 PRO (loaned by close friend) and a CR-6 MAX (max for the increased bed size of 400mm x 400mm x 400mm or ~ a 15 5/8" cube). Ender3 PRO - friend works international and wouldn't be travelling home enough w/ COVID to use his printer - printer...

Best gas for mig Welding sheet metal?

The continuously adjustable voltage feature makes sense for the "C" - I wasn't aware of that feature, but did know that welder was a commercial model and not a retail model. Do the progressive lenses work similar to having a cheater/magnifying lens inside of your mask? @Tecnico

Changes to Fusion 360 for personal use

Information I was provided about the owner was unsolicited from a semi-celebrity I got to work with at a trade show (racecar sponsorship stuff) - he was an American Vet and when we were discussing what US military units I had worked w/ in Afghanistan (one was a US NAVY outfit... the...

    Cambridge - machinist newb

You are correct @PeterT, stuff does stack and the suggestion of going to a smaller QCTP does make sense. I'm very lucky in the sense that my time is 'free', i.e. if I spend more time on this, it hasn't hurt my ability to make an income, etc. (pension) - if I placed a value on time then the most...

Changes to Fusion 360 for personal use

Obviously (from other posts) a SW user here: @PeterT; I've had a cracked version of SW, a student edition, a 'maker' edition and then the 'Veteran' edition - I've never saved to a cloud. I believe that there are trackers imbedded in the .sldprt files but can neither confirm/deny that as a...
