  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. I have never taken so many pictures in my life as this week. @Dabbler - a zep spraying makes soo much sense, thanks. @YYCHM - I "fixed" the mistake you pointed out and am now using the tail stock to measure C/L w/ Dabbler - so in my case, (I 100% fluked into this btw, I just grabbed the...

    Milling Machine DRO

Yeah - I'm getting along w/ SolidWorks pretty well... I'm young ;) (turning 40 soon) so computer programming similar to g-code is something we did in school... I went back to college a couple of years ago and finished a programming course w/o losing any marks over the semester. Sorry.. lol

    Milling Machine DRO

I was asking you specifically about the DRO you ordered for your mill - I believe my machine to be a clone of yours (if yours has a 6"x21" table). The post earlier stated that you reordered your DRO yesterday - I was hoping that you remembered the size of scales you ordered so I could take...

Best gas for mig Welding sheet metal?

@Tecnico - you have a good point about buying North American brick and mortar... from experience, those brick and mortars get their stuff in sea cans so I was trying to be sneaky and save some money - I have a bunch of helmets and was hoping to upgrade to the new (w/in the last year or so)...

Okay - you're input on compound and quill helps me narrow down some of the options. Magnetic vs. glass helps as well. I've been looking on Ali for knock-off/Chinese Dorions for the most part. I have ~ 60 tabs open on one browser but your advice will help me whittle away and close a bunch...

    Milling Machine DRO

@Susquatch - not saying I would hire an employee, just referring to it to establish a value - I know earlier today I said that my time is virtually free, BUT if I could do two things concurrently I feel that it would have value. Retirement w/ injury sometimes means that doing one thing is...

More newb questions: cutting coolant/spray? I haven't run across this yet on the forum and I'm sure it's been addressed... I burnt up an annular cutter a couple of weeks ago because (I'm me) I was impatient, used the wrong cutting speed because I was impatient and didn't have things locked down...

I'm fully committed to the BXA tooling now... I spent $6 on filament to make these holder holders. (jokes) They're the same as one of the members posted about somewhere else on this forum: source was Thingiverse 'Tool Slide v4' mock-up - addressing the "white space" Look okay?

    Beginner machinist question??

I feel like a child in my Dad's shop - "What's this do?" Back plate? The one the chuck is bolted to? Side note: Brake clean destroys the paint on this lathe but not the milling machine... (see primer behind chuck)
