  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Milling Machine DRO

'Hanging' around here I'm catching on that a manual mill is a requirement for the type of stuff I want to do/size of my shop/my shop capabilities, etc. A second, small CNC machine will still be something I consider but further in the future and only as a companion to a manual mill... I enjoy...

    Beginner machinist question??

Interesting... "Red Tacky" it is for the gears - good reminder about the belts - no warranty (the CX709"x" that came heavily discounted w/ no BB support) - I have an excess of 70w90 and regularly have "lightly used" (20 minutes in a rearend) 70w90 that I'm disposing of (I've been using this as a...

3D Printing - machines owned by members

I'd agree w/ that - if my loaner didn't start breaking (other than the silent board... do that anyways... you'll stay married longer and the dog will still want to hang out with you) I may/may not have modded it - once I did start modding it, there were times that the quality/design of...

Best gas for mig Welding sheet metal?

Spray transfer is awesome, but ~ 12 months of welding training across stick, MIG, and TIG, there was only the one opportunity that it was feasible. Our welding program reflected the work we were likely to need to perform, so a lot of steel 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1" one mock-up crack repair in 3"...

3D Printing - machines owned by members

I'm going to want to know more about the TronXY X5SA - it seems like it would be competitive w/ the one I bought (CR-6 MAX) but the way the companies went about designing the machines is so different from one another that I'm curious as to why.

    Beginner machinist question??

@YYCHM Craig! - good buddy! what type of grease? On hand I have wheel bearing grease (Lucas Oil, green, yucky) for packing wheel bearings; Tacky Red for packing racecar wheel bearings using a needle and syringe; lithium white grease (Lucas Oil) that I'd love to throw in the garbage can...

Best gas for mig Welding sheet metal?

That list @David_R8 is pretty good - I kind of balked at the first two things until I thought about it a little more. (Layman explanation, there are numbers out there but I'm not going to look for them right now) There's certain material transfer phases that MIG welding goes through - their...

    Beginner machinist question??

I need supervision *hangs head*.... Yes, Cambridge, I'll make myself available for the 25th - I'll send you a message shortly @Susquatch. Pictures of the lathe (took the center thingy out of the chuck jaws and put it where it belongs, in the tailstock). Four-way chuck as mentioned and I...

Best gas for mig Welding sheet metal?

I'm finding it more difficult to see @Susquatch and I'm not trying to work through near as many obstacles... again, my offer stands for welding experience in my shop... I've taught practical skills to students with difficulties in the past (I'm laughing w/ you, not at you) and try really hard to...
