    Cincinnati? Dividing Head

I had tried this sort of thing initially and found that while I was able to stretch it slightly there was a lot of resistance after 3 or 4 thou. It just felt like it would break after that and when the jack was removed it just relaxed back to its original position. Remember cast iron is not very...

    Cincinnati? Dividing Head

I can't imagine that the DHs were somehow manufactured to have this spring in them since the spring in mine made it so tight it was impossible to rotate. I was wishing I had access to a properly functioning DH so that I could gauge exactly how one of these is supposed to work. Just how much...

    Cincinnati? Dividing Head

In my case it only came apart with a h*ll of a lot of heavy duty prying!

    Cincinnati? Dividing Head

I would expect that a relatively new DH treated properly would rotate, come apart, and go back together again as expected. A second hand DH on the other hand coming from heavy useage in industry probably got banged around a lot and may very likely have the spring effect problem.

    Cincinnati? Dividing Head

That looks almost identical to the problem I had with my dividing head! In my case there were plenty of hammer marks on the outside of the cradle which I surmised told the whole story of how this came to be. I concluded forcing it back together would probably cause some thing to break and any...

    Spot Welder at PA

I did eventually buy one some time ago but have only used it once since. To reweld a broken grill in a toaster oven. Hardly enough experience for a proper critique. All I can say is that it did work but I'm skeptical about it having sufficient power for any thing serious. In my shop there is no...

Which surface plate should I get?

Thank you every one for your thoughtful responses! Consequently I found a second hand surface plate on kijiji that I'm very happy with! Brought it home yesterday! Its a Mitutoyo 24X36X6 Grade A in almost new condition. Weighs about 600lbs!!!

    Cheapo Router & Engraver Set-Up

This never works for me! All the drive screws I ever run into are made of hardened steel and the drill bit will hardly even scratch them never mind take them out.

Which surface plate should I get?

I have only a small 12X9 surface plate that seems too small for most things I want to do. Like checking the precision of my old Kurt 6 inch vise (about 17 inches long). I'm ready to spring for a new surface plate but can't decide if I should get a 24X18 or a 36X24. I would go for a grade B black...

    Storage for heavy stuff?

Sorry, I don't remember it. I was mostly focused on your milling machine and there was a lot of other things to absorb there as well. I do like the sound of your concept altho can't picture how the top shelf of a rolling cart could have an adjustable height to it unless it is like a scissor lift?
