  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     ^ +1 to that!!! No point in sharpening a coated bit if you intend to keep using it for hard metals like steel.

    I would guess they are the old fashioned non cobalt HSS. I would also guess that anything from CT that is labelled as M35 or M42 would be genuine cobalt bits and a reasonable buy. Edit: Actually he does say near the beginning that the CT bit is a Titanium nitride coated HSS.

    I go with M42 135degree point from China/AliEx. Works great for me.

    +1 I've purchased numerous items from Vevor and never had issues like this. UPS is another matter. Damaged/torn shipping boxes, exorbitant fees, and deliveries to the wrong address all par for the course.

    Yes the holder collet is threaded internally and there is a point in the holder that the end mills counter sunk hole at end of shank fits into.Things are finger tightened so that the end mill is up against the point in the holder before final tightening with the wrench. There must not be a gap...

    In case anyone out there is not familiar with what I mean by Clarkson tooling here is a pic of my R8 version. It's the end mills with threaded shanks and the special tool holders that hold them. You can hold them with ER collets but if any part of the ER collet is over the thread it won't grip...
