Dan Gelbart posts unusual shop tricks

Dan Gelbart must be my favorite YouTuber! I already knew the spot welding aluminum trick and should have known the point about keeping acids in the shop. A good reminder! I'll have to find a better place to store my acids!!! By the way Sodium Hydroxide or NaOH can be obtained at candle makers...

    Telescope secondary mirror support system

Ya, and whats more, in another 5 billion years the Andromeda galaxy will collide with ours! I built my own 6 inch Newtonian way back when I was in my teens. It was pretty crude but the main mirror was pretty good. Always wanted to get into astrophotography because you can see so much more with...

    Product Cordless tools

I have a deep dislike of most things with a battery. Mostly because the batteries are usually dead when I need the tool and I find the distraction of having to solve that problem extremely annoying. I like to work with spontaneity and not have to wait for hours to charge batteries. Keeping...

The hypocrisy and unfairness in schooling

One of my favourite true stories about a child prodigy was about a kid who was born with a severe case of autism. (His story was somewhere on TED talks but I've lost the link now.) Initially the experts thought nothing would ever come of him. His case was too severe. They put him in an...

The hypocrisy and unfairness in schooling

Well in the case of these two life stories I think the difference between success and failure are far more clear cut than you imagine. In one case the kid turned his entire neighbourhood into a critically radioactive zone, went to jail for it, and ended up in a low level job in the military. In...

The hypocrisy and unfairness in schooling

I'm always fascinated by stories of child prodigies. Kids that achieved way beyond what would be expected or what is average. In every case that I have ever seen they were not public school students. They got a lot of personalized attention from their parents who either had a high level of...
