    Real estate listings suck

I am south of Ottawa in a small community called Toledo. I have about 120 acres and the prices are not anywhere as bad as Ottawa or some of the surrounding towns. The closer you are to Ottawa the more expensive they become, the less land and councils are difficult to deal with. I have been here...

    Cross Slide T-slots Purpose???

@Susquatch I just read the whole article and it was the very last post, your post that it clicked in. "Doesn't matter where you put it. As long as it's a large solid rectangular foundation, it's a plinth. But I'd see it going on your cross slide."

    Cross Slide T-slots Purpose???

I 3 D printed two T shaped inserts to slide into those slots so they were level with the top of the cross slide. Cost all of about 5 cents to make.

    Cross Slide T-slots Purpose???

Probably a dumb question but on my Craftex CX708 it has two T shaped slots on the cross slide. The question is what are they used for and the tools that can be slide into them. At present they are great chip catchers and cleaning them is a pain particularly under the tool post. For the time...

What size lathe do you have?

@Susquatch I purchased a new Busy Bee Craftex CX708 on April 09, 2025 that is a 10" x 18". So far it seems to be good. I choose this one as I was looking for a lathe that had: 1) a 1" pass through. 2) was a gearhead machine. Don't like equipment with electronic controls / control boards. I...

Need to get drill bits for tapping

When you pull the lever with the leather and die installed as the die cuts through the leather it makes a "click" sound when it cuts through the leather and hits the HDPE baseplate. Yes the electric over hydraulic ones need build in safety features as they are powerful and fast enough to chop...

Need to get drill bits for tapping

How true. I find it is a lot easier to tap the hole, spin a nut down tight and then weld. The nut gives better support as it widens the base of the stud, removes any slight titling of the stud and makes welding easier. In my present project using 3/16" steel plate and 1/4" studs the thickness...
