  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

My vote would be the chuck side. Reason being you'll probably seldom use the follow rest, but you'll want to oil the machine all the time.

    3D printed circuit board!?!

I was thinking the same thing, then I saw them lifting traces to mount the LEDs and I realized they are not sticking, just laying there. Maybe spray it with conformal coating and it'll stick enough to keep things in place?

Tips/Techniques Machining prints or plans exchange?

I'm interested but I'm acquiring projects at a pace that will require me to live to 150 years old in order to complete them. I've hoarded all sorts of drawing and plans that have been published on the net over the years, not necessarily with the intent to build them but I find I learn something...

4140 crankshaft modifications - propeller hub build

Do you have a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve in the crankcase anywhere? That will help tremendously by creating the negative case pressure and ensuring the oil wants to travel into the case and not out. A simple pvc to a catch can would be something I'd try, or check if you do have...

Disassembled old surface grinder REID No 2-i Free

I read free and was ready to drive over, but I have a surface grinder that works, and my logical side is slapping the tool happy side of me saying I don't need it, I don't need another project and I don't have space. I hope someone grabs this before you have to take it for scrap.

DMC2 Mini Mill - Another build and review

Double check your switch settings on the stepper driver, it could be set for double the number of steps per rev which would give you the results you are seeing. Looking back - mine is set to this starting with switch 1: OFF, OFF, ON, ON This corresponds with 1600 steps per rev. everything...

How much oil in lathe gear???

My guess is that the sight glass is a bit too low based on you comment about it having oil on the gears with it just above the recommended mark, and some sight glasses seem to show more oil than the machine really has due to meniscus effect. You should maybe run with the oil just covering the...

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

Yes, the most frustrating part of Aliexpress non delivery is the very long wait before you can make the claim.

    Small Injector Pumps

At very high pressures even a tiny clearance can cause leakage, at much lower pressures the same clearance may be absolutely fine. Also, an elastomer may be fine for low pressure sealing but incapable of handling high pressure. A pump does not need to leak externally to have leakage past the...
