  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     That blackening is normally done on guns(blueing) but doesn't offer any corrosion protection, but does add a coating to help hold a film of oil. I posted an article(in links) on fasteners put out by NASA that discusses that process. Cheers Wayne

    My Reilang had a delivery attempt today(no unit # on package) redel on Monday...pretty good since I only put the order in on Sunday. I ordered the rebuild kit with the oiler so it should be good for my lifetime. DHL did ding me $30 for taxes/brokerage on the purchase of both items.

    You should have some luck with 4140HT which is heat treated to 30ish HRC or 4140 pre hard that is around 40 HRC

    Peter That first one you linked from Home Depot don't do long term charging worth a damn, You'll usually cook the transformer in them. Battery tenders are a better option, one that puts out more than the draw while parked or as suggested above a battery disconnect. Today's vehicles suck amps...
