  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Cross-Slide Leadscrew & Nut

Vertical location: I would make a close fitting “plug” to stick into your carriage bore (green arrow). The plug would be split in half for some distance. Slide your cross slide out towards you so it overhangs a bit. Use adjustable parallels to measure the distance from the center of the bore to...

    Miller welder capacitor

A little late as you already have the replacement part, but yes, I did order directly from Miller before to fix my Bobcat 250. Prices seemed the same as the usual suspects ( that was back nearly ten years ago now), but with the Miller guarantee and the knowledge that they were genuine parts.

    Starrett Stuff

One would think so… but it is actually easier. Use the gauge block to hold the two wires to the bottom of the thread, place third wire on top (it usually balances by itself), use other hand to adjust mic. The gauge block offers a large surface for the fixed anvil of the mic. Once the gauge...

    Shop Engine Lift Cylinder

Why not rebuild it yourself? Take the whole thing apart, replace all the seals with quality stuff. You could probably even upgrade the seals while you are at it. Pretty sure they use standard (metric?) components.

    Nicely done.

    Cross-Slide Leadscrew & Nut

I think both halves of the split nut should be the same length (just like on the Colchester, or on a Bridgeport mill, for example) for optimum and equal load bearing capabilities. The thinner ring can be used with some success since most of the cutting forces act mostly in one X-direction only...
