  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Ideas on a 3/8" hex holder to fit a Mill

Yeah...hens teeth is coming to mind. At even 50usd/each, just too costly. Ironically you can get them much cheaper from Alibaba but min order is 10 and I doubt I could get 9 other folks interested in buying a range of hex and square collets

Ideas on a 3/8" hex holder to fit a Mill

Whenever I contemplate holding tooling in the mill, my go-to is the R8 ER-32 collet chuck. Problem is that you can't buy any hex or square collets for the ER series (seen them only in 5C). You could use a drill chuck but I find that it adds too much length to the quill and I don't have...

    R8/MT3 tooling holder

Putting some more thought in, I came up with this design and lets see how it fits my goals: cheap - plain 'ol 2x4 untreated scraps easy to make - takes only a few cuts and a few holes drilled can hold R8 or MT3 with same base design - yes, as it is not a through hole. Could also bore hole 7/8"...

Anyone looking for a 7.5hp 3 phase VFD?

if you're running as low as 1hp this would be overkill as you'd only be drawing 4~5 amps (depends on motor). (Relatively) small mills are running 1-2 hp; many industrial units are running 3-7.5hp.

Anyone looking for a 7.5hp 3 phase VFD?

HP specs at top of thread; VFD rated @ 23 amps which is typically good enough for 1ph 220v/5hp motor (and you'd rarely hit max power). BTW - if mills are really that cheap out there, maybe toss the rest of us a few links with sales info...there is rarely a smoking deal on used mills in Calgary...

    R8/MT3 tooling holder

So I started messing around with using scrap wood for prototyping and after a couple of mockups, came up with this item. Can be used horizontally or vertically (can use the small mounting holes for stability/mounting). Took it from a section of 4x6 in order to get the length required but it...

Anyone looking for a 7.5hp 3 phase VFD?

Purest power would indeed be rotary-derived but my BP is a stepped pulley model; being an infrequent user I often find myself needing to change speeds mid-work to get it 'just right': fast enough to get the job done but slow enough to not get away on me. I've added a control console near...
