    Looking for a hobby MIG

I wouldn't attempt stick welding anything under maybe 1/8 inch.. I've got a hobart mig I'm going to get rid of but it's a 175 amp machine.. what you're looking for is a Flux core more than a mig since the g stands for gas.. and Flux core welds are nowhere near as nice.

    Plunging into stock

Your can still do it.. just in the .050 increments at a time.. or .050 and rotate a little ways to clear the center that's left and plunge some more going back and forth until you hit your depth then cutting it all in one pass.. either or. Doing it in smaller increments may be better for your...

    Plunging into stock

I'd add that it would also explain why the ramping would be helping as its not center cutting as much by down feeding while feeding on the rotary table. That's why one of the common functions for in feed on vmcs is to ramp into workpieces rather than plunge. Did you try with a center cutting...

    Plunging into stock

What condition are your inserts in and did you use coolant? I'm not certain in your case but I've seen a lot of non center cutting endmills that are indexable, maybe that's not your issue though.. a facing head is a better way to go but they're difficult to find at a decent price or very...

    7x12 Bandsaw variations

I honestly would have to draw it out but I think that you may end up with more variation in the downfeed being in that orientation as the blade approaches the end of the cut. I'm not sure that's a real problem but that's all I can really think of.
