  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Table Build.. Finally Done

Water is pretty much a must have.. I only ran mine a handful of times on smaller (not 2 hr) cuts and the smoke that comes off is horrible for you and your stuff. If you haven't got water in yet it's amazing both how much dust it traps and how cool the part stays when the water kicks back up onto...

    CNC router Recommendations?

If it's only plastic and wood almost any one would work for you if you stay in its limitations.. how big of a machine are you wanting? That determines a lot about what options are out there.

    Looking at a lathe.

Don't go for the 7 x 12 unless you really don't have expectations of turning anything quickly or to any decent tolerance. I'd think a minimum 10x20 or 12x36 for a newer machine would be decent. They're still not massively powerful or sturdy but if your patient you can produce good results. In my...

    Johnford vmc 550

I've got no idea what your machine requires but if it's letting you do a tool change on program I'd check the gcode and see what it's sending right before the tool change.. Janger is likely right about position and there probably is something it's telling the controller before the tool change...

Looking at new lathe -- Opinions and Options

If you just can't wait then the precision Matthews or the machines from kbc or enco are probably the way to go. If you CAN wait, or go back in time, try and find one like the 16x40 I just sold a month or so ago.. it was Spanish and a HEAVY lathe.. nothing like the 14x40s you see for sale new...

    lathe power off timing

I'd agree he's running a vfd.. which you can get almost instant stops if it's set up right. You can also put an electromagnetic brake on yours and have it wired to disengage when you turn the spindle on if you want to mimick what he's able to do. Or put a vfd and 3 phase motor on.

    King Industrial KC20-VS woes

Personally I'd either go the vfd or DC motor route. It'll likely be a better solution for you in the long run. Whichever of the two ends up being less work.. boring gears isn't bad and neither is making adapter plates as long as you don't have to broach the gear after.

    Sourcing Metal | General Discussion

Probably doesn't matter much unless you're doing something pretty specific. I'd try samuels which will only sell full bars and not cut them then steel inc.
