  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Hobbyist mini-machine to bench size comparison

I've had to write this out more times than I would like to have, so I figured I'd write it down here so it can answer other people questions and you guys can add to it. It's a pretty common question for people who either just starting, or moving to a new machine (generally up in size...

    1st Milling Machine......which

Idk where you are but I've got a FRV30-200 I am going to get rid of (and I'm in Calgary). Mach 4?

I haven't run it. From what I had heard in the past it wasn't really complete but that could have changed quite easily. I've switched to linuxcnc on almost everything so far just because of its flexibility and to keep my machines consistent (I'm not completely there yet, it's got a steep...

    End mill purpose?

I've never seen an endmill that was meant for a secondary support.. Not to say it doesn't exist but I'd think it likely isn't meant for that or there wouldn't be flutes to the end. Horizontal machines use arbors because you can make up essentially any profile you want in a near endless size...

    ROUGHING END MILLS

You know.. The nice things about machines is you can move them in when she's not around and there is very little chance she can get them out later.. Better to beg for forgiveness..

Best way to test dro x axis

You're supposed to put a good surface as a reference, zero a test indicator to it, move away and then put a known size gauge in, come back until you hit zero on the known and look at what reading you're getting.

    Better steel

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for but you could try encore metals, I picked up a large chunk of 4140 tubing from them and while I was getting it they appeared to sell cut rounds.. 3 or 4 inch long chunks of 12in were cut up waiting for pickup. I don't know that they will have or be...
