  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Maybe you could use a suitable substitute like this. The grey one is 5mm, pretty close.

How Not to Produce a Simple Wood Pattern

@carrdo maybe you mentioned but can you provide any details on the foundry end of things? Where is it going? Cast iron I assume, or...? Is it safe to venture a guestimate cost in public?

Series on reconditioning a Schaublin 70 lathe

My other question was how much you figured you lapped out of the tailstock bore. Reason is I found it to be excruciatingly slow process on my radial CI liners. Like 2 thou is a lot

Series on reconditioning a Schaublin 70 lathe

@Mcgyver I watched part-II, excellent work! Was the original tailstock quill hard chromed or was that your decision to make it long lasting & obviously compensate for the increased bore from lapping? Maybe I missed but about how much was lapped off?

Machine Considering Buying a King 1236ML Looking for Opinions

If you have a choice in tray I would not go perforated. Its just asking for swarf to stick into (hard to brush out & ouchy on the hands). And fluid drippings to leak out. You can also get plastic cafeteria style trays pretty cheap at some of the discount sellers. That's what I'm using & they...

Request to do a small machining job

Can you elaborate on what rod you sourced? For example if its drill rod, they are typically ground with stated tolerance +/- 0.0005" My experience is they can vary that much across the axis (elliptical) as opposed to diametric but now we are getting into the weeds. Its pretty good stuff. But if...

Request to do a small machining job

I hope not. I PM'd @nyulpista but lets not trip over ourselves. I mentioned I was happy to step aside if someone was closer. Shipping a box of air across town is 20 bucks these days. I (barely) have enough material in the right size. Since its kind of an open discussion & a good example of...

Request to do a small machining job

Ok that makes sense now. Let me check shop supplies because I think I have R1.0 carbide insert grooving tool (but I already know I don't have an R2.0). The overall turning isn't difficult but a custom grooving tool would consume some time if you wanted any degree of accuracy.

Request to do a small machining job

If I use your R=2.0 mm and 0.5mm offset on both edges, I get a resultant distance of 9.73mm from the center of groove to axis. So 2 * 9.73 = 19.46mm (vs your 18.8mm) Where are our methods different?
