  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

I'm not quite following this logic. A boring head with its rotating single point cutter is usually the go-to method to make accurate holes in most circumstances. It should even override a non-circular existing hole in most cases, unless the existing hole is highly irregular, or hard material or...

    12 x 36 lathe vibration

Looks like similar principle as mine, but you have even more room & access for hardware. It would benefit from flat washers on either side of the plate & maybe even lock washer on one side. I seem to recall my lathe had a funky size, possibly metric based. And to confuse matters maybe the one...

    Lathe change gears noise

I think these gears are always engaged. Power feed & threading are via 2 separate shafts coming out of the headstock. PF lever engages slotted plain shaft. Threading engaged with clamshell lever on leadscrew shaft.

    Lathe change gears noise

Thanks. I do have washers on both sides of banjo. They were just removed from pics to convey the first issue, the shank interfering with curved slot. That's been resolved. I haven't seen many plastic gears on 14x40 2+HP machines though? I didn't look at my existing metal one too close yet...

    Lathe change gears noise

I posted this on another subject post, but I think worth initiating here as its own theme, so copy-pasted. I don't do a lot of metric threading but the few times I have, I have been greeted with an unnatural chug-A-chug sound, coming from the gears. I chocked this up as introducing new gears...

    12 x 36 lathe vibration

What I'm trying to say is that it was less about belt tension & more about the motor mount plate being constrained. The difference is like night & day. Locked down its very smooth. Left untightened the motor does the harmonic bunny hop & the lathe wants to walk across the room. I suspect it will...

    12 x 36 lathe vibration

I just adjusted the belt tension on my lathe. Mine has a bolt that goes through a clearance slot on the lower swing plate & threads into the motor plate. What keeps it into position are 2 nuts on either side of the swing plate. Kind of like a jack screw idea. The bolt is basically stationary but...

    6mm collet for die grinder

I mounted up one of my so called 1/4" shank grinding stones & it was obviously loose. I can't even recall where I got it, but I'm got to bet a coffee it was advertised as 1/4" but is likely 6mm in reality. 6mm collets are apparently available buts gasp the price & usually in far away lands. I...

    Pictures

Something new. Every time I try to upload a legit picture it fails to load. I get this error. Yet I can see it in the preview as tiles. Maybe because its the 5th one & some max number of picture limit? They are all reasonable size, not large. This one is 445KB

    12 x 36 lathe vibration

While I'm here, probably unrelated to your vibration issue, but just an example of something that seems to go along with the Asian machinery territory. I don't do a lot of metric threading but the few times I have, I have been greeted with an unnatural chug-A-chug sound, coming from the gears. I...
