    Boring Times in the shop

About a decade ago I purchased some BXA tool holders for my QCTP from a friend who was trading his lathe and didn't want to give away his tool holders. . Among them was a holder for a one inch boring bar. I didn't have a 1 inch boring bar and it's been gathering dust since. So my recent project...

    Tool South Bend 9A screws?

My experience is to go one way or the other when it comes to Metric or inch. I do much of my work in metric but with inch machines and inch measuring tools. I tried both for awhile but found it very error prone. I got rid of all my metric measurement tools and my machines are inch. If I'm...

    Best 10" lathe?

I don't know the lathes mentioned and of course have never used them. I do agree that on any future lathe I might own a Quick Change gearbox would be essential. I made the mistake when I bought my my Modern Tool 14X40 that because it was a gearhead and had selectable feeds it would cut any...

Elegant way to hold angle blocks on a mill vice

Placing the angle blocks on the inside of the jaws is definitely the most accurate way, but kind of difficult when you have a work piece in the vise. My most recent project was making insert tool holders . The pocket that holds the insert has multiple angles which I achieved by using the angle...

    Tips/Techniques CA-AB ISO 32 Hydraulic Oil

I recently purchased Hydraulic Oil to change the oil in my lathe. My recollection of how much oil was needed failed me and I over bought. Of course I didn't save the receipt. So for anyone in the Calgary area who would like it. $20. Sells at Canadian Tire for $42.99 + Tax. Located in Airdrie.
