    Milling machine working height?

I had never thought about it before, but the advantage to a mill with a fixed table as opposed to a knee. You can put the table at a height that's comfortable and it's always at that height.

    Milling machine working height?

I have some bad disks in my back and any kind of stooping is painful. I raised both my mill and my lathe. The lathe about 3 inches and the mill about 6. With the knee raised almost to the top it places the vice at my shoulder level. I don't find it too high. My only regret is that I didn't do it...

Machine Left the Shop Door Open

Mine came from Accusize. The basics look pretty good but quality control sucks. Paint on machined surfaces, swarf in the work head, ugly burs. The work head would hardly move in any direction. I disassembled cleaned, removed paint and stoned all the edges. Machined a new sleeve for grinding...

Anchoring lathe - should I or shouldn't I and how to?

Poured pads float. As frost comes in and out of the ground it would be nice to think that process takes place equally, but cracks in the floor suggest that it doesn't. The building won't fall down but is does move around.

Anchoring lathe - should I or shouldn't I and how to?

I'll leave the decision of to anchor or not to anchor to you. However I think adjustability is important on a pad surface without footings. My garage floor is a poured pad and it moves about seasonally. Any time I want to do accurate work I should re-level.

    Tool My most hated tool

Agreed. I didn't realize my tool frustration would become so profound a topic. I didn't see it coming and frankly was a bit overwhelmed as to when to jump back in. I have been following along and decided what I will try and do. @Mcgyver. Your cut knurl tool is great work. I think a bit beyond...

R Beautiful work. I learned something from this. Up until now I had never heard of cut knurling. I think for me I will try build my own scissor type. I don't do a lot of knurling so that should do.
