UV Resin and a custom machined cabochon for a fishing reel

The problem with buying local is they jack the price ridiculously for the same Chinese products you can buy direct. I was quoted $30,000 from CanCam in TO 4 years ago for the same thing I bought from Cloudray direct for $4G's. They claim to give better service but my pal in Ohio bought local and...

UV Resin and a custom machined cabochon for a fishing reel

I'm not familiar with that one Peter. I used to use Alumilite all the time. Some days I'd pour random amounts and get a great cure, a few weeks back I got all technical and weighed both and the next day it like thick soup still! Leaves me scratching my head. That's why I thought I'd try UV...

UV Resin and a custom machined cabochon for a fishing reel

Thanks Darrin. I think if you do try the UV resin it will require a longer time under UV then normal due to the thickness, clear tubes will be obvious as well. I think it might solve some of your issues regarding hardness when cured. This stuff becomes very hard and machines well.

    Large scale Tourbillon

Once assembled I'd say the hardest part was trying to understand why it wouldn't run! Sure it would start up but stop after a few beats. Circling back to the beginning were no one was willing to share the information I needed to understand the working of the movement I had to systematically go...

    Large scale Tourbillon

The reel components were made a few years prior while I figured out the rest. I have my own anodizing line so that was all taken care of first.

    Large scale Tourbillon

The balance wheel and hairspring assembly was time consuming. I was able to find a decent sized hairspring from a mantle clock but didn't know the amount of weight the wheel required to acquire the correct amplitude. So after many attempts and failures I come to this version.

After machining all the pinions I was ready to assemble the movement.
