  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Lathe pecking order 8-12"

Looking at it another way, isn't the "best" lathe the one that will do the job you want to do, when you want to do it? It is simplistic but certain lathes will be better suited to the work you want to do than others. At the extreme, a 28" swing lathe isn't going to be great for making watch...

Welcome. We have an auction house here in Ontario where it seems to be their standard operating procedure to leaven precision stuff out in the weather for as long as possible. ;) Craig

    What House are you?

The horse in the picture above is called Solo. I think the first competition my daughter* took him to was an indoor ring. Maybe 40 by 80 feet? My daughter was about 13 at the time. There was a small warmup area at the end that was 4 or 5 feet lower than the main ring. The horse and rider...

    What House are you?

Since the topic has drifted to horses... My daughter rode and jumped for several years. A horse might be fine with red flowers at a jump but if there were some yellow ones--we're not going anywhere near those! Thousands of years of being a prey animal have left deep instincts that different...

    Dividing head de-crustification

As usual, it took far too long for me to recognize that there was a simple answer. I mentioned before that the spring-loaded pin didn't have a way to stay in the retracted position. When I needed to crank the handle multiple turns, I had to keep pulling the handle out or it would snag on the...

Wanted a non leaky oil can.

Do the pump oilers have a fine tip? My lathe (10X22) has several ball oilers where the ball opening is ~3 mm diameter. The tip of the oiler needs to be just small enough to go into the opening or oil goes everywhere but where I want! Craig

    Dividing head de-crustification

I got my dividing head fully reassembled today--normal summer-time distrations have meant that progress has been slow. I think it looks an awful lot better but, more importantly, everything functions smoothly. The main gear on the spindle has one small chip out of one of the gear teeth. I...

    What House are you?

If you work over your head some of the time, the lighter M12 are a big plus. Besides, it is usually not a big deal to have a spare battery. Craig (I think I just tipped my hand here...)
