  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    CA-ON Multi-conductor wire

Nope, it switches power too. The scheme is explained in the last section of this video: You need to watch the whole video though. BTW, his 5 conductor/3 conductor wiring schemes are specific to a certain style of rotary drum switch operating a 240 V single phase motor. The approach would...

    CA-ON Multi-conductor wire

Thanks for reminding me. The video I watched showed two wiring schemes. One with 5 conductors and the other with just 3. I can follow the 5 conductor scheme but the 3 conductor arrangement seems like magic. It is kind of tagged on at the end of the video. He draws the current path for...

    CA-ON Multi-conductor wire

Normally I'd agree about bigger being better but in this case the maximum diameter is also a concern. It would be difficult to modify the drum switch but I'd have to replace the motor junction box. There is no space to enlarge the entrance for the cable. I don't want to get into trying to...

Thank you for checking. What kind of diameter is the overall cable? Craig

    CA-ON Multi-conductor wire

I have basing my plan off the second video you linked to. (A screen capture is printed out and sitting beside me!) I can follow the 5 conductor scheme but I didn't understand the 3 conductor version. I'll go back and view that section again. Craig

    CA-ON Multi-conductor wire

@Susquatch Thanks for the Digi-Key suggestion (even if they are a US company). After a bit of filtering, the following looks promising: https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/lapp/601605/12148485 Re the wire gauge, the wiring has to pass through a 1/2" pipe thread opening so, with strain...

    CA-ON Multi-conductor wire

Hi: So, a member hooked me up with a reversing drum switch that I want to add to my Craftex mill-drill. I'm not an electrician but I believe I understand the necessary wiring...I just need a short piece of cable with at least 5 conductors plus ground to go between the switch and motor junction...

Noob needs help with custom HSS tool.

On a small lathe like the 618, you usually want a tool with both back rake and side rake to make cutting easier. (Threading tools are different: the shape of the thread is the primary concern. Thus, no rakes.) For absolute best results, each rake angle might be 'tuned' a little higher or...
