    Shop Full Garage Tour!

My original garage was right to the limits of the building bylaws at 768 sq ft and 15' to the peak (actually 15' 2" but they didn't measure). Those were the rules in 99 when it was built. later I went through the difficult development permit process to add on and after being denied by city hall...

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

Not sure if the rules have changed since 2013 when I added onto my garage, but at that time the ground footprint was what was measured. The footprint was the actual foundation coverage not including overhangs. The exception is the veranda on the front of our house which has foundation support...

What did you do for a career and would you pick it again?

In a way I do use my firefighter experience in the shop, but in a prevention mindset. I did some health and safety work as part of my career and try very hard to keep a safe work space at home. I do also have to bandage the odd gashed finger too.

What did you do for a career and would you pick it again?

I went straight into an apprenticeship for auto mechanics after getting out of high school. I was fortunate to be able to work with my Dad to get that quick start in a trade. Toys in the attic

I still have my steam engine as well, got it as a Christmas present when I was about ten. I'd lost the stack off of it long ago, but found I could get replacement parts from Wilesco, so ordered it and a few other washers and bits. I've only run it a couple times since cleaning it up. It's...

Shop Is your shop messy or spotless?

I got it after someone else posted about it. I've only used it a couple times to repair some motorcycle gear but it did what I needed to do quite well. It's nice that it works slow so I can almost keep up. It is a Kenmore, probably a bit newer than that from the late 80s I'd guess. It was...

Shop Is your shop messy or spotless?

Alberta is less severe for rust, but it's still a big issue. Probably the deep cold and dryness of the climate help somewhat, but lots of vehicles over ten years are sporting ventilation openings in the bodywork. Keeping it clean is a huge help, I will spend as much time washing up underneath as...
