    A Lathe Tool Bit Question

This was a very aggressive bit he made. It's certainly not one I made at college. I'm looking at 16* across the top and at least couple front to back. Hard to measure that one.The side relief was healthy 5*. A nose radius of 1/64". I set QCTP so the included angle was about 90* Looking at...

Tool Anyone own a metal cutting circular saw?

I've used many tubs of ZipCuts. Walter makes a ZipCut for aluminum, it works well. I have and used a Freud carbide aluminum blade. Again use in an unloved skilsaw. Mine is a Milwaukee .At work we would use plain wood carbide blades in a skilsaw . Jigsaws have to be variable speed and used real...

A Fine Day in the Neighbourhood

I used a small stove element as a resister, It's only 40 ohms, (50 by the book) but others say it worked. It's not being used right now as I haven't programmed the E-Stop, yet. It's mounted on the back. I used a couple of four conductor 18ga shielded wires to connect to the switches.

A Fine Day in the Neighbourhood

From the 10 year programing challenge, you can see computers are not in my skill set. However, writing was a requirement of our education in those days. I have 8"x8"x14 3/4" control box bolted to left side. It's bolted with 3/4" stand offs so as to clear the headstock lid. The bottom is above...

A Fine Day in the Neighbourhood

I 'm using the controls I installed on the lathe face. When I did power up, I just used run and stop on the VFD.

A Fine Day in the Neighbourhood

Finally after 10 years my metal lathe works ,sorta. The VFD and I have come to terms. It still doesn't do Jog or E-Stop. But it does do Forward,Off, Reverse and the speed adjustment pot works. To me, this is huge victory. I had used it on the power up setting for a while. It was awkward going...

    Homemade cabbing machine from scrap.

In Oregon, we were at a ranch where they sold rock by the pound, I looked for the fault lines, then I hammered in the chisel along it where I wanted it to break .This gave it a weak point. It split. We only had to buy my cut off piece. While I haven't ever done this, I think this should work...
